INNOVATION IN TEACHING Grants

The California Table Grape Commission invites educators in California’s table grape growing regions, which include the Coachella and San Joaquin valleys, to apply for an Innovation in Teaching grant.

Each year, California table grape growers award up to twenty-five grants through the Innovation in Teaching Grant Program to support innovative and enriching projects, activities, and events for students.

Recipients will receive a grant of $1,000 to help fund creative, student-centered projects that enhance learning in and beyond the classroom. Project focus areas may include—but are not limited to—math, science, agriculture, California history, art, reading comprehension, and health. Proposals in other subject areas will also be considered.

Grapes in the Classroom

California’s table grape growers support teachers and students in the classroom by providing lesson plans for teachers, activities for students, information on health and nutrition, and printed materials such as stickers, posters, and recipe cards.

A Spanish tradition called “the twelve grapes of luck” dates back to 1895 and consists of eating a grape with each bell strike at midnight on January 1. Many believe this leads to a year of prosperity.
