Scholarship Stories
Each year, California table grape growers invest in their communities by offering scholarship opportunities to graduating high school seniors from the table grape growing regions of California. Since 1985, the industry has awarded over 200 scholarships totaling over $3 million. Within the scholarships offered, the Agricultural Scholarship seeks to invest in the future of agriculture by supporting students who have an interest in the field, while the Field Worker Scholarship and Field Worker Bridge Scholarship aid students whose families have worked in the California table grape harvest. Nerin Delgado was the recipient of a 2020 Field Worker Scholarship and attended the University of California, Los Angeles. Brenda Monje was the recipient of a 2024 Agricultural Scholarship and is attending California State University, Fresno. The stories of Nerin and Brenda celebrate the exceptionally bright and talented students throughout the California table grape growing regions.
ABOUT California TABLE GRAPES
Californians have been cultivating grapes for more than two centuries. Today, 99 percent of U.S. table grapes are produced in California's warm, dry climate that is ideal for grape growing. With more than 80 grape varieties grown, California grapes come in three colors—green, red and black—and are in season from May through January.
